Nitya Original
This original artwork is an exploration of the principle of Nitya or the constance within ever-expanding creation.
The term Nitya is used to denote something eternal, perpetual, and unchanging. While Nitya primarily refers to the eternal nature of reality, consciousness, or divine aspects, it also has connotations that can relate to the idea of continuous, unceasing processes, which can be metaphorically linked to the concept of an ever-expanding universe.
While Nitya itself is not explicitly about expansion, it can be philosophically extended to encompass the idea of an ever-present, continuous process. The cyclical nature of creation, preservation, and destruction (as described in the Hindu trinity of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) can be seen as a Nitya process, reflecting eternal dynamics. The idea of an expanding universe can be reconciled with Nitya by considering that while the universe expands, the fundamental principles (like cosmic laws or Dharma) that govern this expansion remain eternal and unchanging.
In Advaita Vedanta, Brahman is the Nitya, the unchanging reality, while the universe is Maya, the illusory manifestation. The dynamic, expanding universe can be seen as a play (Lila) within the eternal reality of Brahman. This reflects the view that while the universe changes and expands, the essence (Brahman) remains Nitya.
