typography practice

Choose a short quote, phrase or a few words that you love and create a type-based artwork using the techniques we explored in class.

Experiment with:

• contrasting typefaces (serif + sans serif)

• scale + hierarchy

• spacing + alignment

• colour + texture

• warping or manipulating letterforms

• combining type with simple shapes or imagery

Try making three different versions of the same words. Change only the typography and composition and notice how differently each version communicates.

Pay attention to what each choice makes the words feel like.
