HOW TO LISTEN TO SILENCE

Silence is a medium.
Stillness is a portal.
Darkness is a teacher.

Silence, in the Egyptian mysteries, was considered a living field. The primordial darkness from which all creation emerged. Before the gods, before light, before form, there was Nun - the infinite, formless ocean. Every initiate began their journey here. Not in the light but in the quiet, watery, all-embracing dark.

Silence still works this way and always will.

After the descent and the softening, THE VOID begins to shift from a place you fall into to a place that responds to your awareness. This is the same threshold Egyptian priest-artists crossed when they entered their dream chambers or sat before bowls of darkened water to scry. They were not trying to force a vision. They were training themselves to hear the silence beneath reality.

The practice was simple, but radical:
+ Remove the senses.
+ Remove the noise.
+ Remove the self.
+ And then listen.

Without external noise, the nervous system drops into its deepest, most ancient frequency. It’s highly receptive and it’s where the first impressions of vision begin to form.

This sounds like a paradox to the ear that has not experienced it. Silence speaks in subtleties:

A shift in temperature.
A sparkle behind the eyes.
A feeling from within you.

To listen to silence is to loosen the boundary between inner and outer perception. It’s to recognise that THE VOID is not inert. It’s the same womb the mystics understood as the origin of creation.

It’s important to remember, you cannot control your time in THE VOID. You cannot demand it shift. You aren’t waiting for a message within its chambers. Instead, you are opening yourself to receive the wisdom eternally emanating from within it.

This is how the ancient seers listened.
This is how we listen.

Practice — LISTENING LIKE AN INITIATE

  1. Close your eyes and step into a vast inner darkness. A creative void. Take a few breaths here to settle into stillness. Just like in our guided meditation, if thoughts arise - witness them and then gently return to your breath without judgment.

  2. Offer yourself to silence. Once you feel the spaciousness, speak inwardly “I am listening”. Important to note here: we are not asking, not searching, not intending. Simply listening.

  3. Notice the first thing that stirs within the silence. Something always moves first. Perhaps its a colour, a feeling, a pull, a sensation in your body, words being spoken, a symbol. Try your best not to jump into interpretation. Simply receive it and be present with it.

  4. Take a deep inhale into the impression you receive from silence. Let it settle within you and when you are ready, return to your conscious awareness and record what came through. This is the beginning of visioning.

Reflection Prompts

  • What does silence reveal when I treat it as an active presence instead of a VOID?

  • Where do I notice the first glimmers of communication within that silence?

  • What begins to take shape when I stop demanding clarity and start receiving it?
